Steelhead still staging in Lake Erie

Low river levels and hot weather have kept the majority of the steelhead staging in Lake Erie along the shorelines and in the mouths of the rivers. Both the fish pictured here were caught recently near Fairport Harbor on minnows. Fairport short pier anglers are reporting scattered success using spoons and spinners or green/white jig and maggots, with most activity being seen early in the morning.  For public access to shoreline fishing in Lake Metroparks consider Arcola Creek, Lakeshore Reservation, Lake Erie Bluffs or Lakefront Lodge.   Some river steelhead activity is also being seen by boaters/kayakers out of Grand River Landing. The forecast of rain and cooler weather could get things moving again for the weekend.
