Time for a Winter Break

It might be time to take a break from fishing, hopefully a very short break.  Current conditions on the Grand River are slightly high, muddy and slushy or iced over completely.  There is plenty of shelf ice and lots of chunks floating anywhere you can find open water.  Reports are that the Chagrin River is in slightly better condition but still with very little open water.  With a few more cold days and nights, we might be able to get started with some ice fishing at Veteran's Park and Hidden Lake.  Currently the ponds are ice covered but have a lot of thin ice and unsafe areas.  Lake Metroparks does not monitor the ice, it is your responsibility to assure the ice is safe before heading out.  State guidelines recommend at least 4 inches of clear ice for ice fishing.  Please be sure to check and re-check before you head out, take all proper safety precautions and don't go alone!
